The National Kidney Registry (NKR) is pleased to announce that UVA Health West Complex in Charlottesville, Virginia, has joined the NKR’s Microsite Program as the newest participating center. Over 60 transplant centers nationwide are now part of the NKR’s effort to help patients find living kidney donors through personalized outreach tools.
The UVA Transplant Center has been performing kidney transplants for over 40 years. In 2015, it won the NKR Excellence in Teamwork Award. In addition to the Microsite Program, UVA Health participates in the NKR’s Voucher Program, Donor Shield, and remote donation.
The Microsite Program provides free websites and one-on-one coaching to patients seeking a living donor to increase their chances of achieving a living donor transplant. To date, more than 1,075 microsite patients have received a living donor transplant.
“Microsites are an indispensable tool for anyone searching for a living kidney donor,” said Samantha Hil, a living kidney donor transplant recipient and the NKR’s Microsite Product Manager. “The more people who hear your story, the greater your chances of finding someone willing to donate. A personalized microsite lets patients share their need for a kidney with thousands of people through a unique web address and free business cards.”
The Microsite Program is supported by six donor search coaches, all of whom have led or participated in successful donor search campaigns. These coaches are available to every patient with a microsite, offering personalized guidance and support.

About Find A Kidney
Living kidney donor transplants last longer than deceased donor transplants, yet of the 18,000 annual kidney transplants, only 6,000 are from living donors. Find A Kidney aims to end that imbalance by giving kidney patients the tools and information they need to find a living donor.
