Why You Should Create a Custom Microsite for Your Donor Search
When you are searching for a living kidney donor, one of the most powerful tools available to you is a personalized microsite to help tell your story and connect with potential donors.
Here is why a custom microsite can make all the difference.
What Is a Microsite?
A microsite is a free, personalized website designed to help patients in need of a transplant find a living kidney donor.
There are two types of microsites:
- Starter Microsite: A basic site that includes generic text with your name, age, and general information about living donation and a link to register as a potential donor.
- Custom Microsite: A personalized site that includes photos, personal details, and more information about your medical condition, life, family, and transplant journey.
Why a Custom Microsite Matters
While a starter site allows patients to immediately start sharing the microsite’s URL using the included business cards, a custom microsite is typically more effective because people are more likely to consider donating a kidney to someone when they feel a personal connection. A custom site allows you to:
- Introduce yourself: Include information about your family, job, hometown, and hobbies—these small, human details help others relate to you.
- Tell your story in your own words: Share your diagnosis, what led to your need for a transplant, and how kidney failure affects your daily life.
- Talk about your donor search: Explain why a living donor is your best option and why family members may not be able to donate.
- Share your hopes and dreams: Help potential donors imagine how their gift could change both your quality of life and your future.
By creating a custom microsite, you are giving potential donors the opportunity to get to know you—not just as someone who needs a kidney, but as a person with dreams, passions, and loved ones. That personal connection could be the key that inspires someone to step forward as your donor.
How to Get a Custom Microsite
Microsites are only available through a National Kidney Registry Member Center that participates in the microsite program. If you are a patient with one of these centers, reach out to your team there for more information on the microsite program. If you are not working with one of these centers, you can register through the National Kidney Registry to get started.
