Can You Update Your Microsite as Your Transplant Journey Progresses?

Taira Foster, Donor Search Coach

Creating a microsite is one of the most important steps in your living kidney donor search. Your microsite gives you a place to share your story, connect with potential donors, and explain what a kidney transplant would mean for your life.

But your story doesn’t end once your microsite goes live. As your transplant journey continues, updating your microsite helps keep your story current, engaging, and inspiring to visitors.

Why You Should Update Your Microsite

Your microsite reflects where you are in the transplant process, and keeping your site up to date helps your supporters follow your journey.

Potential donors appreciate seeing how your story evolves. Regular updates remind them that your need is real and current, and that you’re actively engaged in the process. Even small updates—like sharing a new photo, describing how you’re staying healthy, or thanking those who’ve supported you—can help build connection and trust.

What You Can Update

You can update your microsite content anytime as your situation changes. Here are some examples:

  • Your story: If your diagnosis, treatment plan, or waitlist status changes, include that information so visitors have the most accurate picture of your situation.
  • Your photos: New or seasonal photos can help your page feel fresh and personal.
  • Your outlook: Talk about how you’re feeling, what you’re looking forward to, and what keeps you motivated. Sharing gratitude and hope helps potential donors see your strength and resilience.
  • After your transplant: If you receive a transplant, you can update your microsite to thank your donor, your support network, and everyone who followed your journey. Many recipients choose to keep their microsite active as a post-transplant microsite as a way to raise awareness about living kidney donation.

When you update your site, be sure to make a new round of social posts letting people know you have news to share, and remember to include the link to your microsite.

How to Make Updates

If you’d like to make changes to your microsite, you can edit your page the same way you did when you first created your custom site. If you have any questions, contact your microsite coach for assistance. Updates are easy to make, and the NKR team can help ensure your information is clear, accurate, and ready to publish.

Staying Authentic and Positive

As with your original microsite, honesty and positivity are key. A positive, hopeful tone encourages visitors to connect with your story, and might inspire someone to take the next step toward becoming a living donor.
